Diversity.xla

Download a version of diversity.xla, an Excel add-in which will allow you to calculate
several diversity indices in Excel.

Copy diversity.xla to the XLStart directory in Programme Files/Office/XLstart in
Windows 98, or to the XLstart directory under your personal settings in Windows Xp
(and 2000?):

C:\Documents and Settings\"your Name"\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART

Syntax:

= fishersalfa(N, S) - calculates fishers’ alpha, where N is the number of individuals
and S is the number of species.

= shannonweaver(range) - Calculates Shannon index, where range is a range of cells,
either one row or a combination of ranges. The formula ignores empty cells and cells
with a zero.

= Simpson(numbers) - Calculates Simpson Diversity index (1/lambda), where range is
a range of cells, either one row or a combination of ranges. The formula ignores
empty cells and cells with a zero.

= BergerParker(numbers) - Calculates Berger Parker Dominance, where range is a range
of cells, either one row or a combination of ranges. The formula ignores empty cells
and cells with a zero.

= BrayCurtis(range1, range2) - calculates Bray Curtis similarity index for two ranges
(plots) (of identical sizes!)

= Sorensen(range1, range2) - calculates Sorensen similarity index for two ranges
(plots) (of identical sizes!)

= Jaccard(numbers1, numbers2) - calculates Jacard similarity index for two ranges
(plots) (of identical sizes!)
